Diving deep into an embodied communal process, what an incredible evening we had dancing on July 19th, just a couple days after the lunar eclipse! Our community joined together for a jubilant July frenzied circle, dancing an extra long set of of dreamy tunes to aid in erasure of any enduring doldrums!
Our dancing invitation included considering who we are in the circle geographically, psychologically, spiritually. With the idea that we are bigger than just the circle we sit in, but one which includes the forces of the universal which encompass and expand beyond the ballroom, this building, the town.
Circle dances have been considered sacred for millennia among all cultures and have served several purposes, perhaps most importantly employed to honor the supernatural powers--think dances for spiritual connection, as in the whirling dance of the Dervishes within Sufism.
A monthly event, we will be meeting again on Friday, August 16th in the hallowed space of the historic Odd Fellows building—which happens to feel very Brooklyn with its rounded windows, expansive wood floors and soaring ceilings!
Each dance set is 60-70 minutes and musically follows a wave-form starting very slow, gradually building to a peak and then coming back down to stillness. We begin each dance in opening circle where I offer an invitation for exploration during the dance.
Though these invitations change, last months’ won’t be too unlike the next:
Threshold crossing, rattle yourself to loosen or remove the skin or suit of your habitual ways of being. Know together we are entering into a vulnerable mystery. Let the dance assist you in being permeable to your ancestors, guides or deities knowing that to RE-member the other world into this one is to live in your true inheritance.
While dancing be open to allowing a dream to choose you—a dream or a vision which if you’re open to it, will do its initiatory work on you over the next six months.
Say, yes to whatever comes and don’t wish for something else!
